We were contacted to build the web site for the Eugene Von Bruenchenhein collection, which included an informational site as well as an audio player, an image gallery and a full-screen image and audio application featuring many of the late painter's works.
We collaborated with Big Wig Design on this project, designing our applications around the look that we got for the site. Building out the site, we decided to include both Flash and HTML galleries, to increase searchability of the paintings and galleries. We adapted another high-resolution, zoomable, full-screen image gallery that we had developed with the same client for a different project, and we updated the user interface and a few functional elements to make it work within the design of this site. We also created a new audio player for short spoken recordings about or by Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, the painter and visionary artist.
The various galleries and databases integrate with XML making for easy updates and flexible formatting. The site is being used as a promotional vehicle for the collection. There will also be a 1 year long exhibition of select paintings at a gallery in Washington DC.
Combining the various technologies involved in this site with a solid design allows for much greater dimensionality of experience than just a typical info site. The multimedia element--especially the immersive full-screen gallery and audio player--really convey a different kind of information than is available on most web sites, especially with such intuitive and high-powered applications built into the functionality of the site.
